Summer and Winter are two completely different experiences at Gornergrat. Below you will find a brief look at the things you can do in Gornergrat during these seasons.
Season: Summer & Winter
The newest addition to the Gornergrat, this multimedia experience will show visitors the Matterhorn and its surrounding Alpine peaks. Visitors will experience it in 3 levels.
1. Paragliding: slip on your 3-D glasses and sit on the paragliding chair. Choose between a relaxing or exhilarating day and explore the Horu (the local name for Matterhorn) virtually.
2. Immersive Cinema: Visitors get to see the four seasons on the Matterhorn with light projections on a true-to-life replica of the Matterhorn.
3. Periscope: Using a periscope, visitors can see the Matterhorn and its surrounding peaks. Graphic anchor text will give you more information about what you see.
Season: Summer & Winter
The beauty of the snowy slopes with the stark blue sky against it is a sight for sore eyes. There are multiple hiking trails between Zermatt and Gornergrat. If you want something more relaxed, take one of the shorter trails around Gornergrat. During summer, expect to see glimmering lakes and meadows in full bloom.
During winter, you can hike from Zermatt to Riffelalp or Riffelberg to Rottenboden, right through the Swiss pine forests.

Visitors can meet the famous black-nosed sheep of Zermatt. Between June to September, these spiral-horned sheep graze at Gornergrat. As they are fitted with a GPS collar, visitors can locate them easily and meet them!

The best way to get up to Gornergrat from Zermatt is via train. You can take the Gornergrat Bahn from Zermatt and back. While you can hike from Zermatt to Riffelalp and Riffelberg to Rottenboden, it is not possible to use a car or any other mode of transportation to make this complete journey.
How to reach Zermatt:
By Train - Fly to Zurich or Geneva and take the train to Visp. You can change the mountain train directly to Zermatt.
By Car - Zermatt is car-free. You can come by road and park at one of the parking facilities in Täsch. From here, Zermatt is 12 mins away via train.
